Midy Aponte- Vargas

From income inequality and environmental protection to land preservation and health disparities, she tackles social justice issues in all their complexity to ensure systems are looked at holistically. Midy’s consultancy, Civil Strategies, is a partner to MARC Global.

She founded Civil to power nonprofit leaders and BIPOC-led businesses with the know-how to build a solid infrastructure for their organization. One where leaders and owners can get work done, scale big, get noticed, and make the most impact. In this role, Midy is MARC Global’s Acting Chief Operations Officer and has been instrumental in shoring up internal systems and policies to ready MARC for future growth.

Prior to founding Civil, Midy served as the Chief Experience Officer for Spitfire Strategies. She was responsible for managing their Intermountain West and Midwest presence while building their international portfolio. She also collaborated with prestigious national and global foundations such as the Ford Foundation, Environmental Defense Fund, Earthjustice and World Resources Institute, and countless community foundations and national nonprofits.

Midy sits on the board of directors for the Alaska Wilderness League, the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado, and Hispanics in Philanthropy; and is a member of the Green Leadership Trust. She received her Bachelor of Science in Communications from the School of Journalism at Florida International University. Go Panthers! She was born in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City to Cuban immigrants and was raised in Miami.
